back to the roots ...

Journal Entry: Sun Mar 30, 2008, 1:46 PM
Hi there!

I've been working a lot on personal projects lately. Unfortunately nothing that shows right away, since it's ... you might be shocked right now, ... programming! ...

I'm back into programming for now, therefore I wont be posting artworks here for a while until I get my stuff done. I've opened a Research & Development section on my website: [link] with a tiny insight in what I'm doing.
Currently I'm programming C# in Photoshop and Python for Maya.

The Photoshop programming is about a matte painting tool,
that assists my work flow in Photoshop. It saved my a§$ already several times ...

I use the new Python for Maya to program procedural and generative modelling
as base for my future matte paintings.
Once my stuff is up and running, I'll be able to post some results ...
By the way, ... Python is awesome!!

Best Regards,

Dan

I'm thinking about taking classes in Python and/or Perl scripting since they're used a lot in composite programs like Nuke and Shake.

Good luck on the coding! I must admit I'm pretty weak at it: anything that goes beyond Lingo is too hard for me. :D

So, you've got programming skills too? :O Cool! :) Want to teach myself some scripting too

Python is going to be the new Java soon, so having it under your belt could lead to some free lance programming work too.

when you say your coding for Photoshop do you mean your working with Adobe on CS4? Or just making plugins ect?

lol, no ... I'm not working for Adobe. I'm still very disappointed about CS3.
I have some weird hopes, that they would fix some stuff for CS4 - which I seriously doubt ...
Therefore I'm sticking to CS2 and program, what I need for myself ...

Python is already more or less industry standard for VFX programming. Most major 3D packages and VFX tools are supporting Python.
